J-man a.k.a. “Jamin Wilcox.” Pronounced ‘‘Jay-min’’ Wilcox, was born ten minutes outside of Woodstock, N.Y. J-MAN was raised around the music business as his father, famed drummer Willie Wilcox was the drummer for artists such as Todd Rundgren, Utopia, and Hall and Oates. As a child, seeing the shows of such bands made a lasting impression on him. At the age of eight, the first two records J-MAN bought were the Stand By Me soundtrack and Beastie Boy's License to Ill. J-MAN discovered The Beatles at 13. This became his favorite group and remains his favorite group to this day. In addition to J-MAN'S father's musical influence on him, his mother also has an in-depth knowledge of multiple genres of older music. Many of the artists that J-MAN was introduced to were African American jazz, soul, and funk artists. In addition, J-MAN discovered hip-hop at an early age and the absorption of this music also influenced his musical passion. J-MAN began playing the drums at the age of 13 and developed the same passion for drumming as his father did before him. J-MAN studied drumming continuously, including a semester with the Santa Barbara city college Jazz Band. He shared the same favorite drummers as his father did before him. Amongst them were Bernard Purdie, Ringo, and Tony Williams. During his second year of attending college his band, Audiovent was frequently playing sold-out shows on the Hollywood strip at venues such as the Whisky, The Roxy, and The Troubadour. Audionvent eventually received a major label record deal with Atlantic Records after a bidding war circulated amongst the record companies. Audiovent was a modern rock band. J-man toured domestically and internationally with Audiovent. Audiovent's song The Energy reached NO. 9 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks. Jamin ultimately ended up leaving Audiovent for personal reasons and joined the band Home Town Hero. Home Town Hero eventually dropped their name, and changed their name to Under The Influence of Giants, as their musical styles evolved into more dance, funk, rock, and soul music. The band's lead singer was Aaron Bruno of Awolnation. The band recorded their debut album entitled ”Bitch City” on Maverick Records. After Under The Influence of Giants started to play multiple sold-out shows they penned another record deal with ISLAND/DEF JAM with L.A. Reid. U.T.I.O.G- then toured internationally and domestically as well as played late-night talk shows such as Jimmy Kimmel. The band eventually disbanded. Jamin then took a musical break and initially spent time as a composer for multiple major commercial houses. He eventually reinvented himself into a solo artist (J-man), songwriter, and record producer. Some of the songs J-MAN was responsible for writing and producing were How I Want you, for artist Hudson Thames ft. Hailee Steinfeld with nearly 27 million spins to date. In addition, J-man co-wrote and co-produced two tracks for London rapper Dizzee Rascal. One of the songs was Goin' Crazy ft. British pop star Robbie Williams. The song reached the top five on the British Itunes charts. J-MAN has currently released a full-length self-titled album ''J-MAN." The album is diverse, due to J-MAN'S musical influences. He continues to place his songs in multiple advertisements, television shows, and films.
